First Sounds
1. Students should be practicing with their mouthpiece or head joint only a majority of their practice. This will help them focus on just producing a clear sound and setting their embouchure (the shape of their mouth) properly.
2. Students playing instruments with multiple parts must practice putting their instruments together and taking them apart.
3. Brass students should practice buzzing on the mouthpiece and changing the pitch from high to low, low to high and high- low- high using their lips (firm makes the sound go higher, loose makes it go lower). Air should stay consistent throughout.
